RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME . . .

While Michael & I were enjoying a wonderfully decadent brunch overlooking the Bosphorus yesterday, there was a bombing in Taksim Square. Which was a short walk from where I was staying and we had - in fact - walked through Taksim Square just Thursday night. Yikes. Thanks to everyone who expressed concern.

So, our Drago trip kicked off last night at 6PM. It should be interesting. There are twenty passengers and two drivers in a "small" TWENTY-SEVEN YEAR OLD truck named Daphne. A mix of ages & nationalities, males & females, four couples (I think, still sorting everyone out). Including one older American couple wherein the wife has never left the U.S. and they are traveling all the way down to Cape Town. She seems completely overwhelmed and petrified, and they seem absolutely unprepared in every way. WHY, I wonder, did they choose this trip/style? I hope they love it, but am a little worried for them!

We're staying at the Orient Hostel, near Topkapi Palace. It is full of obnoxious youngsters, mostly Aussie/Brit guys who are trying to outscream each other about their sexual escapades of the previous night. Looking at them, it's hard to believe that anyone would HAVE sexual escapades with them, but maybe that's just me.

Anywho, we leave at 5:30AM tomorrow and have a very full day of driving, including a stop at Troy. Another hostel tomorrow night, then a week-long stretch of camping as we wind toward Syria.
